FUTURE

Resources comments and links for week 2 of EDC MOOC course

Most often the future as seen through the eyes of technologists and futurologists can seem a far-off place. As dreamers, they either speak of Utopian societies, who've long since harnessed their technologies, or of worlds left ruined by a war with cyborgs or a genetically engineered virus. The films presented this week took both perspectives although there is often something in the long run fatalistic about predictions...is this based on humankind's track record of greed, war, equality and destruction?
I am NOT confident that we have the capacity to share equally...We often hear proclamations of equality particularly from USA .......as long as I am more equal than you!! Perhaps a trans human and post human  objective where we are integrated into our digital technology is a proffered state than abject miserable hunger and poverty. The scenarios raised by the films offer fascinating options but in all cases it is the technology or the corporate that is central stage..
For me there is no sense of personal and spiritual exploration or freedom presented by the futures even wee Charlie 13 !!.
Question.... What if you don't want to learn any-more?
The education system in my view is broken and elitist...and I am in it and feel powerless to change it....
